An overview is given on the present situation and future options for the recycling of Municipal Solid Waste Incineration (MSWI) Residues in the Netherlands. Several new utilisation and disposal regulations all influence the future management situation of MSWI-residues. At this moment only MSWI-bottom ashes from a minority of the Dutch MSWI-plants comply with the standing regulations for utilisation as a construction material. The leaching behaviour of the majority of MSWI-bottom ashes must be improved systematically within the next years to assure future utilisation options. Since the Dutch Policy for Municipal Solid Waste Incineration Bottom Ashes is striving for maximal recycling a lot of emphasis will be put to further upgrading of MSWI-ashes.
