Synopsis

KEMA possesses a calculation model by which the performance of existing SCR installations can be checked and assessed. In this way it is possible, at minimal risk, to find out whether adjustments in the operations or adjustments to the installation itself might be implemented in order to reduce operating costs. Operational costs of SCR are made up mainly of the costs of the actual catalysts themselves. Catalysts become progressively less efficient over time. If catalysts can be kept in operational order for a longer period, it might be possible to effect significant cost savings. These cost reductions could be achieved in a variety of favourable circumstances. By means of the calculation model, the technical feasibility and economic margins can be determined. This will be further explained in the paper by means of real-life examples.
