Waste Management of Canada (WM) and the Western Hockey League (WHL) are encouraging hockey fans to participate in a recycling drive by bringing cans, bottles and tetra packs to WHL games in support of Waste Reduction Week.
WM is partnering with WHL teams across Western Canada to raise money for minor hockey while encouraging recycling during Waste Reduction Week (WRW), October 16 to 22. WM is a national sponsor of WRW, a program aimed at educating the public about waste reduction. All proceeds raised from the drives will be donated to support minor hockey in local communities. Recycling donations will be deposited into Waste Management bins at the arenas throughout the WHL prior to the game.
“The recycling drive is a great opportunity for Waste Management to partner with the WHL to promote both of our passions – recycling and hockey. The drive will encourage recycling and in return, local minor hockey programs will benefit from this campaign,” Cam Hantiuk, WM’s Director of Public Affairs for Western Canada, said.
“Our WHL Clubs are very pleased to partner on this recycling fundraising initiative with Waste Management,” commented Ron Robison, Commissioner of the Western Hockey League. “It is an excellent way to protect our environment while providing further support for minor hockey in WHL centres throughout Western Canada.”
