Sludge Control Equipment: Sludge Blanket Level Meter to Control the Sludge Level in Industrial Processes and Automatic Wastewater Sampler to Collect Composite Samples in Water and Wastewater

Model 602 Sludge Blanket Level Meter

The Model 602 Sludge Blanket Level Meter finds the sludge level in water and wastewater clarifiers, lamellas, settling tanks or any industrial process settling solids. The meter can be used to just read the sludge level or it can control the sludge level automatically.

Technical Advantages

Desludging by sludge blanket level control rather than suboptimal timers maximizes sludge density and minimizes the daily volume of sludge pumped. Markland`s laser-like infrared beam automatically adjusts its intensity to compensate for thick or thin sludges and is unique in that it can measure the sludge level in dissolved air flotation (DAF) tanks and inclined pate clarifiers (Lamellars). A microprocessor with advanced digital self-diagnostics greatly simplifies debugging. A graphics profile program gives a visual picture of settling at the sludge/liquid interface that is useful for coagulant dosage control or process adjustment. The patented Markland system is used in sewage treatment, drinking water purification and many industrial processes and wastewaters.

Applications

  • Primary Clarifier
  • Secondary Clarifier
  • Industrial Clarifiers
  • Wastewater Treatment Plants
  • Drinking Water Filtration Plants
  • Clarifiers
  • Dissolved Air Floatation (DAF) Thickener
  • Decanting Tanks
  • Inclined Plate Separator
  • Batch Processes
  • Decant Control
  • Anywhere a sludge or interface level needs to be measured

Sludge Level Control in Thick Sludge

Heavy sludge loading can overwhelm a timer controlled desludge pump allowing sludge to slip over the top, while the blanket level controller maintains the sludge level within the high & low set-points.

Sludge Level Control in Thin Sludge

Light sludge loading can allow a timer to pull a core hole and pump water out of the bottom. The blanket controller does not turn on the desludge pump until it is required,
And the sludge level is maintained within the high and low set-points.

Automatic Sludge Level Control

Portable Sludge Level Detector

Model 10 Sludge Gun

The Model 10 Portable Sludge Blanket Level Detector finds the sludge bed in ponds, clarifiers, lagoons, septic tanks or any other tanks where a sludge bed is forming. The Sludge Gun® is a hand held device for easily spot checking the sludge level.

Features

  • Compact
  • Lightweight
  • Battery Operated
  • Rugged Construction

Operation

Press the Sludge Gun® trigger and lower the probe. A loudspeaker on the butt of the gun howls when the probe enters the sludge. The pitch and volume will vary depending upon the sludge concentration so the unsettled portion above the blanket can also be detected. Read the sludge depth from the numbered markers on the cable.

Technical Advantages

The Sludge Gun with its rugged and compact construction is easy to handle and use. Long coretaker type sludge level detectors are unwieldy and not as safe to use on narrow catwalks or from a boat in a lagoon. The loudspeaker on the butt of the Sludge Gun® gives a variable pitch note depending upon sludge density, which allows the operator to locate the true settled sludge blanket as well as the overlying unsettled layer. The solid-state electronics are powered by standard easily replaced AA size batteries. There are no light bulbs to break or replace.

Applications

  • Primary Clarifier
  • Secondary Clarifier
  • Industrial Clarifiers
  • Farm Lagoons
  • Pig, Swine and Hog Lagoons
  • Settling Lagoons
  • Settling Ponds
  • Septic Tanks
  • Tailing Pond
  • Polishing Lagoons
  • Wastewater Lagoon
  • Wastewater Treatment Plants
  • Drinking Water Filtration Plants
  • Clarifiers
  • Dissolved Air Floatation (DAF) Thickener
  • Anywhere a sludge or interface level needs to be measured

Model 502 Suspended Solids Meter

The Model 502 Suspended Solids Meter measures suspended solids in wastewater and industrial processes using ultrasound. The meter reads concentrations and suspended solids that are too thick for optical turbidity meters. The meter is not affected by colour.

Features

  • Not sensitive to color
  • No optics to foul
  • Push button calibration
  • Dynamic damping
  • Ultrasonic self-cleaning

Operation

The Suspended Solids Meters use the attenuation of ultrasound to measure the concentration of sludges and slurries that are too thick for optical methods. Markland`s meters operate in the region between turbidimeters and nuclear gauges.

The sonic pulse passing through clear water returns a strong echo and the meter reads zero. Suspended Solids absorb some of the sonic energy making the echo weaker and the meter then reads the % suspended solids of the slurry.

Technical Advantages

Ultrasonic attenuation can measure the density and concentration of sludges and slurries that are too thick for optical turbidimeters. Sonic vibrations help keep sensors from fouling and color is not important. Ultrasonic transducers contain no hazardous nuclear material and there is no inherent source decay to cause drift. Simplified microprocessor assisted pushbutton calibration locks calibration parameters into permanent non-volatile memory. Automatic dynamic damping adjusts for non-homogeneous material such as sewage sludge. Advanced digital self-diagnostics greatly simplify debugging. Ultrasonic Suspended Solids Meters bridge the gap where optical systems dont work and where the cost of nuclear systems is not warranted.

Sludge Density Meter

Suspended Solids Meter

The Duckbill Sampling System is used to collect composite samples in water and wastewater. The sampler is intrinsically safe. It can lift samples 60 feet and move them horizontally 100 feet. The sampling lines are blown dry to prevent freezing & clogging.

Features

  • No Mechanical Moving Parts
  • Low Cost
  • Low Maintenance
  • Inherently Explosion Proof Remote Sampler
  • High Sample Lift
  • Tubes Blow Dry
  • Clog Resistant Rubber Duckbill
  • Samples Timed or Flow Proportional

Additional Features

  • A small air pumps along with the sampling system
  • Single bottle composite samplers
  • 60 feet (20 meters) is the normal maximum lift
  • Air Pressure required 15 -35 psig (1 - 2.5 Bar)
  • If the sample points are close together a two head `stereo` system is common

Technical Advantages

Using no mechanical moving parts, the Duckbill style pneumatic sampling systems extract wastewater samples with high ejection velocity. Sixty foot sample lifts are possible and pneumatic systems are inherently Explosion Proof. The solid-state control system can be programmed to sample on a time or flow proportional basis or can be in a standby mode awaiting a signal from a flow switch or other remote control device. The rubber Duckbill check valve closes around large particles so that even Raw Sewage can be sampled with minimal maintenance. The patented Duckbill style wastewater and water samplers have 35 years of reliable field service around the world.

Applications

  • Wastewater Treatment Plants
  • Drinking Water Plants
  • Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plants
  • Refineries
  • Chemical Plants
  • Electroplaters
  • Circuit Board Manufacturers
  • Anywhere a water sample needs to be taken for analysis
