The Regional Municipalities, Environment and Water Resources Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Salim Al Rowas has stated that the Sultanate gives priority for sustainable development and adequately managed water resources, thanks to the directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. Al Rowas pointed out that such achievements necessitated the adoption of a number of procedures, such as water resources protection law, dam building, maintenance of water bodies, creating balance between available water resources and demand, enhancing water resources by using traditional, non-traditional methods, launching a comprehensive awareness campaign on water rationalisation and benefiting from other countries’ experience in this field.

In a press statement in Tehran, while participating in the fourth meeting of the board of directors’ of the Regional Centre for Water Management in urban regions, Al Rowas said that the centre had managed to execute numerous successful projects to improve water management in the member states.

He indicated that the Sultanate had organised a number of programmes in cooperation with the centre during the past two years, one of the seminar being held was an international symposium on technical and scientific expertise in water and waste water technologies.
