Earth Day was Saturday, but Mohawk Fine Papers in Cohoes is promoting a way for people to celebrate Earth Day all year long. And it's good for the paper manufacturer's bottom line as well.
Mohawk figures that if 500,000 people printed their copies on recycled paper for one year, then nearly 370,000 trees will not have to be cut down.
Even more compelling perhaps is that more than 16 million pounds of solid waste will not be generated, and more than 32 million pounds of atmospheric emissions will be eliminated.
The environmental savings are even more if the paper is recycled with wind power.
Mohawk notes that 500,000 people is only about 1 percent of the population.
So what's the catch? Buying Mohawk's recycled copy paper made from wind power. The product is called Mohawk Color Copy 100% Recycled. Mohawk says it's the only paper mill in the United States to make such a product produced with wind power.
