COMMON SENSE SOLUTIONS, LLC

Environmental Remediation
Microbe Bioremediation
Environmental Consulting Services

Environment Consulting Services for Wetlands and Navigable Waterways, Petroleum and Hazardous Waste, Natural Resource and Outdoor Recreation, National Environmental Policy Act, Brownfields Project Planning and Site Remediation Management

Common Sense Solutions, LLC (CSS) is a Washington, DC consulting firm that provides cost-effective solutions to environmental problems that would be valuable to your project.  CSS has worked extensively with wetland creation, river bank erosion control, eco-system restoration, soil and water bioremediation and hazardous waste and petroleum projects for over twenty eight years.

In Washington, D.C., we lobby for innovative technologies for soil and groundwater remediation before the U.S Congress and private sector.  As a result, we have evaluated numerous technologies for their ability to cleanup contaminated soil, surface and groundwater and only represent the most effective technologies.

Innovative Technology Marketing

Due to our work with hazardous waste and petroleum sites, CSS has acquired extensive site owner lists and regulator contacts. CSS`s credentials and credibility with regulators have opened doors for meetings, new technology demonstrations and projects that would otherwise have been difficult to arrange.  On your company`s behalf, CSS will aggressively pursue contracts with the worst polluters on the ``enforcement hook`` for multiple and ``mega`` sites.  In addition CSS has done prep work with targeted industries whose waste products are ripe for chemical oxidation and bioremediation treatment.

Due to twenty-eight years of lobbying, CSS is in an extraordinary position to market your remediation products.  We have acquired voluminous lists of corporate, site owner, Brownfields developer, and remediation contractor contacts that would be valuable to your company. CSS has developed relationships with U.S targeted industries that are in need of innovative waste solutions.

On our client's behalf, our staff ``matches`` sites with applicable technologies and explains its virtues to the responsible party, developer and regulator.  Typically, this is accomplished at the best time, when the parties are seeking cost and duration cutting alternatives.  Over the years, our credentials and credibility with Fortune 500 companies and regulators have opened doors for meetings, demonstrations and projects that would otherwise have been difficult to arrange.

Recently, we began discussions with the Chinese government to bring innovative remediation technologies to that country. As our client, this groundwork could greatly benefit the marketing of your company`s remediation technologies, products and services.

Wetland Creation

Our work with wetlands has involved the creation of mitigation plots in conjunction with Clean Water Act (Section 404) requirements, and creating waste water cells for industrial effluent and storm water management.  Secondary benefits have been to improve flood control, improve water quality, recreation and wildlife habitat.  CSS has superior expertise identifying hydric soils, wetland hydrology, inundation rates, salinities and selecting the appropriate hydrophytic plant species. CSS provides project management for contracting excavation machinery and oversees the use of local operators.  CSS has well established relationships with nurseries that pack and ship plant stock. CSS will completely satisfy all regulatory requirements and if needed, provide expert witness testimony. Currently, CSS is in discussions with the Chinese government to bring wetland creation to that country.

Phytoremediation

Phytoremediation is the technical term used to describe the treatment of environmental contamination through the use of plants.  Certain plants are able to extract hazardous substances such as petroleum hydrocarbons, arsenic, lead and uranium from soil and water. One example is alpine pennycress, a plant which naturally accumulates high levels of cadmium and zinc from the environment. Alpine pennycress is therefore known as a hyperaccumulator of these metals, which in unnaturally high levels would be poisonous to many plants. Another example of a hyperaccumulator is the brake fern. This fern extracts arsenic from the soil at a much greater rate than other plants. This arsenic is stored in the fern's leaves at as much as 200 times that present in the soil, thus enabling effective and practical clean-up programs. Sunflowers were also used to clean up uranium near Chernobyl.  Other favorable phytoremediation plants include wetland plants (particularly cattails), pumpkins, willows and cottonwood. CSS provides the full range of project planning, management and oversight for this innovative solution to site contamination. Currently, CSS is in discussions with the Chinese government to bring Phytoremediation to that country.

Matrix Enhanced Treatment System

CSS also provides support for a recently developed petroleum and hazardous waste soil remediation portable device called METS (Matrix Enhanced Treatment System).  METS is ideal for soil cleanups because of its thoroughness, mobility and cost effectiveness.  This state-of-the-art mobile self contained machine has consistently demonstrated that it can substantially reduce petroleum hydrocarbons, MTBE, BTEX, TCE, lead, arsenic, acidity, and even PCBs.  In fact, it can neutralize 140 contaminants.  Contact us for more information on this exciting new technology`s many applications.
