Continuing Demand for Economical but More Sensitive Gas Detectors Inspires This Move

CHATSWORTH, Calif.- Interscan Corporation, a leading manufacturer of gas detection systems and related software, has begun work on a new line of MEMS gas sensors, to complement its current product offerings.

MEMS is an acronym for Micro Electro Mechanical Systems, and refers to the integration of mechanical elements, sensors, actuators, and electronics on a common silicon substrate through microfabrication technology. Recent breakthroughs in this field show great promise for both single and multi-component gas detection applications.

In laboratory testing, MEMS gas sensors have been able to detect certain chemicals down to concentrations involving only a few molecules, and have been modified to achieve excellent specificity, as well.

Lewis Fein, a technical marketing manager at Interscan, noted that, ``It seems quite fitting that Interscan started out using electrochemical voltametric sensors, which represented the new wave technology at the time. Now, while remaining faithful to our roots, we are expanding into what could really be called the next wave.``

``Stay tuned for exciting developments,`` he added.
