Food Grade Carbons for Food Grade Applications

Envirotrol, Inc. is involved in the food, potable water, and bottling businesses providing millions of pounds per year of carbon to those markets and has been for 20 years. Envirotrol, Inc has an ISO 9001 approved facility that is also AWWA compliant and can provide NSF-61 certified carbons. Special procedures at the facility are in place to better facilitate the food grade applications. These include segregated handling systems, record keeping procedures, tagging and tracking methods, and a totally separate shipping and receiving facility. Envirotrol can supply many different types of carbons to the food grade applications including granular and powdered products. These products include coal based, coconut based, and wood based materials. All of these carbons are NSF-61 certified and totally compliant with the Federal Chemicals Codex.

Potable Water and Food Grade Capabilities

Envirotrol, Inc. is a major player in the food, potable water and bottling businesses, providing millions of pounds per year of carbon to those markets. Envirotrol has been involved since 1986 in food grade reactivation, and since 1970 in custom segregated reactivation of carbons. Envirotrol, Inc. has ISO 9001 approval and certification for its AWWA compliant, fully segregated, reactivation plant where material is processed, and the reactivated material can be NSF-61 certified, a process for react materials only Envirotrol can supply world-wide, because patents for this certification are pending. Special procedures are in use at Envirotrol plant for the segregated handling systems, records keeping procedures, tagging and tracking methods, operating procedures, and testing methods used for all materials.

In regards to the kiln, all feed systems are stainless steel, fully washable, and enclosed against exterior contamination. The kiln is a natural gas direct fired kiln made of carbon steel, completely lined with high alumina/silica brick fully cured and seasoned to be inert. Within the food grade reactivation plant, only carbons from food grade applications, municipal potable water applications, or bottlers' carbons are processed. All carbons are processed in segregated lots, and if necessary, the kiln can be burned out at high temperature between customer lots to assure further cleanliness. The kiln can be operated at temperatures up to 1900F, with steam/carbon ratios up to 2:1, and discharge rates as high as 1000 lbs/hr.

Envirotrol can supply many different types of carbon as make-up to systems involved in food grade and potable water activities. These include granular carbons from coal, wood, or coconut shell material, and Envirotrol`s own patent-pending Pure Assure® double activated carbon, which provides superior performance. Envirotrol also supplies powdered carbons from various source materials, including coal, wood, and lignite. All carbons are NSF-61 certified, and compliant with the requirements of the Food Chemicals Codex.

Envirotrol maintains its own fleet of pneumatic trailers. Currently, these trailers are subjected to a hot soapy water rinse between uses to a food grade standard when used for food grade and potable hauling. If the volume is great enough, dedicated trailers can be provided for individual customers. Other municipal potable water carbons are delivered to Envirotrol in dump trucks, direct from the water filters.

The food grade react plant is fully isolated, complete with its own shipping, receiving, and warehouse facilities, and is fully compliant with AWWA standards, and has been approved to produce NSF-61 certified reactivated carbons Pure Assure®  as well as dried NoRise®  virgin products (which prevent pH rise in carbon beds). Kosher certification for products is also available.
