World Bank Group (WBG) and the Azerbaijani government have not coordinated yet the Protocol of their official negotiations on joint Environment Programme in the country.

A government source says that the final protocol of talks between ministries and departments caused questions.

“The Cabinet Ministers expects to return it to WBG for updating to manage its consideration by the Bank’s Board of Directors on fixed date - June 17. But no loan reduction is expected,” the source indicates.

The loan will amount around $150 million. Three agreements (with Ministry of Emergency Situations, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan and Ministry of Environment & Natural Resources) make the Loan Facility.

The loan finances will be given on the mixed scheme - on the conditions of International Development Association (IDA) and International Bank of Reconstruction & Development (IBRD).

Within the new project assistance the MES will be assisted in modernization of landfill of radioactive wastes.

The landfill is intended for waste disposal of two iodine producer enterprises in the Surakhani and Ramani settlements of the Absheron Peninsula. Besides, it is expected to clean the 800 hectare territory in the region adjoining to the Heydar Aliyev Baku International Airport.

Technical assistance to the MENR will include development and use of new national ecological norms to conform to EU standards.

Norms of ecological cleaning depending of future land use will be different for future rural areas, industrial and housing territories.

SOCAR will be supplied two or three plants for ground cleaning and rendered assistance in working out corporate ecological standards.
