EQuIS 5 Limnology

EQuIS 5 Limnology provides lake scientists and data managers with a simple and intuitive means for reviewing water quality data and producing graphs which effectively communicate parameters pertaining to a lake, pond, reservoir, stream, or river. Data observed and collected manually or acquired through an automated instrument or observation system may be checked, edited, and imported easily into an EQuIS database. Graphs such as vertical profiles and isopleths are quickly created and can be exported to various image formats and effortlessly sent to several different individuals through direct integration with Microsoft Outlook.

Multi-Axis Vertical Profiles

Vertical profiles of important limnological parameters such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, and electrical conductivity are easily plotted on horizontal axes which can be scaled and positioned independently. Annotation labels may be added automatically including structural features such as reservoir inlets or withdrawal tiers, or manually to denote miscellaneous comments. A secchi symbol and label display the secchi depth. Vertical axes show depth in meters and elevation in feet.

Automated Loading of Instrument Data

Automatically load data from remote underwater instruments such as RUSS or Hydrolab. The EQuIS Data Processor (EDP) sets a new standard for simplicity while adding a host of new features and capabilities that allow the user the utmost in data checking flexibility. In addition to basic checks (e.g. field length, type, required, reference values, duplicates, range checking) EDP supports custom checking routines which may be simplistic or may involve complex, conditional logic.

Depth/Time Isopleths

Water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity, or any other observed water quality parameter is easily represented over a time period. Isopleths display changes in physical or chemical water quality parameters at a given location using depth and time axes. Water depth is accurately reflected as the water surface elevation changes.

Environmental Information Agent (EIA)

Environmental Information Agents (EIAs) are web tools to `push` reports to users, automating report delivery to the many casual users of data in large organizations. Part of
EQuIS 5 Enterprise`s Workflow Automation capabilities, EIAs are perfect for regular reporting to the public. An EIA generates pre-defined reports on set calendar dates or from trigger events such as exceeding contaminant levels. Real-time `data discovery` is now possible for the hundreds of data users in organizations that previously had to seek system experts or data owners.

Pocket EQuIS

Pocket EQuIS is a mobile data collection software application designed to feed EarthSoft`s EQuIS database with environmental sampling information.

Until now, EarthSoft`s field operative clients had to record their measurements on paper, and then later key that information into the EQuIS system. With the introduction of Pocket EQuIS, field operatives will enter information into the PDA, even in remote locations, and access data from previous samples/surveys at the touch of a button. The application specifically allows users to gather and remotely send information around locations, field measurements, sampling, and water level. Pocket EQuIS is extremely intuitive and guides the user every step of the way. Pocket EQuIS runs on the Microsoft Pocket PC operating system and thus can be used on a wide variety of devices. The application requires Pocket PC 2002 and sufficient memory to store the application and corresponding data. Fully bundled hardware and software kits exist for both ruggedized and non-ruggedized devices.

Pocket EQuIS - Mobile Data Collection Software

Electronic Lab Data Checker (EPA R2)

Perhaps the biggest headache a data manager can face is bad EDDs. Invalid data, missing or incorrect codes, and duplicated data can turn what appears to be a simple delivery of data into an exercise in frustration. Valuable time is spent fixing problems in the data rather than fixing problems in the environment indicated by the data. The Electronic Lab Data Checker (ELDC) makes it possible to avoid these problems easily. With ELDC, laboratories and other data generators can check their own EDDs and correct problems before submitting them to the end EQuIS user. ELDC provides most of the same checking tools used during the EQuIS upload process. Any problems detected can be quickly corrected by the generator, who likely has the data close at hand. ELDC is an important piece of the data reliability puzzle. EQuIS users do NOT need to buy ELDC, they only need to insist their data providers purchase and use ELCD as a condition of data submission.

ELDC verifies typical difficulties with EDDs:

- Correct file format
- No duplicated records
- Required fields populated
- Correct data types (numeric dates, etc.)
- Adherence to valid values
- Orphaned samples or results

ELDC provides immediate feedback regarding EDDs ``pass or fail`` helping to ensure success in data transfer from providers to EQuIS users.

Electronic Lab Data Checker (ELDC)

The Electronic Lab Data Checker (ELDC) is a software tool created to assist laboratories and data providers in the preparation of electronic data deliverables (EDDs). Staff expertise, varying EDD formats, and the type and sophistication of LIMS systems within the laboratory community are all factors that can work against accurate and seamless delivery of EDDs. The ELDC works to level the playing field for data consumers.

Prior to importing data into EQuIS, errors in the EDD must be corrected. These errors typically include problems with unrecognized codes, improper field types, incorrect locations of data within the files and mismatched files. This process frequently involves requiring the data generator to correct and resubmit the data files, typically weeks after production, thus delaying final analysis by the project managers.

Users of the EQuIS system should encourage their data providers to use ELDC to review all deliverables prior to submission. The software produces a log file indicating all errors detected in an EDD file that the laboratory can then use to correct errors. EQuIS users can require this log file as part of the deliverable to prove screening of EDDs. By putting the feedback for error correction in the hands of the data generator, EDD quality typically increases quickly and dramatically.

Electronic data deliverables reviewed by ELDC are checked for the following common data problems:

- Field widths and data types (time, date, integer, text, etc.)
- Duplicated data
- Number and location of fields in the file
- Required fields are populated
- Fields that make up a key are both populated and the key is unique
- Reference values, such as CAS numbers, EPA method numbers, etc.
- Deliverables are cross checked to ensure that samples, tests, results, or batches represented in one file are present in the related file

EQuIS Geology

EQuIS Geology is the new standard for managing environmental geology data. Used around the world by regulators, consultants, and industrial companies, EQuIS Geology makes accessing, analyzing, and viewing subsurface data easy and efficient. Benefits are realized from small sites that may require only a few borehole logs to large remediation projects that involve geologic cross-sections, groundwater models, fate and transport, solid models, contours, and reports. EQuIS Geology eliminates the tedious and error-prone management tasks that often exist when data are on paper or in separate spreadsheets.

EQuIS Geology makes exporting your data to many industry-standard tools for visualization and analysis a snap. Your investment in such tools is protected because EQuIS not only works with these tools, but allows you to use them more efficiently. Instead of worrying about file formats and moving your data between tools, you can concentrate on science and engineering. In addition to the many powerful data exports and interfaces, it is easy to load data into EQuIS Geology. Several exhaustive and simple data formats (EDDs) are included. Custom formats can be created on-the-fly to work with the way your data are received. EQuIS Geology also reads native data formats such as GMS borehole files and gINT project databases.

EQuIS Geology 3 is the new standard for managing environmental geology data. EQuIS CrossTab Report Writer

The EQuIS CrossTab Report Writer is a powerful tool that can be used in conjunction with EQuIS Chemistry. The simple interface allows users to quickly create complex CrossTab reports using data from existing EQuIS Chemistry project databases. The versatility of the EQuIS CrossTab Report Writer allows users to design various types of CrossTab reports - all with this easy-to-use interface.

EQuIS Completeness Checker (ECC)

The Completeness Checker is designed to evaluate an incoming electronic data deliverable (EDD) to determine whether a complete set of samples, analytical tests, and results has been received from the laboratory. Expected samples are defined by their sample delivery group (SDG) and turn-around-time. All that`s required is that the user create a set of samples through the EQuIS Chemistry Interface and specify the tests and requirements for each sample. Once these samples have been added to an SDG, the evaluation will identify missing samples, missing tests, and missing results. An easy-to-read report generated during the checking activity will specify at which level data are missing. This report can be provided to the lab in order to obtain a "complete" electronic data deliverable.

EQuIS 5 for ArcGIS 9

EarthSoft`s EQuIS for ArcGIS adds powerful environmental modules and utilities to enhance the capabilities of ESRI`s ArcMap and ArcScene desktop GIS applications.ArcView, ArcEditor, or ArcInfo 8.1 or later can be used to create, query, map, analyze, and report from EQuIS project databases while seamlessly integrating the GIS with industry-leading third party software.

EQuIS for ArcGIS Interface

EQuIS for ArcGIS is an extension for the ArcView, ArcEditor, and ArcInfo 8.x desktop applications which allows users to query, report, and map the information maintained in EQuIS Chemistry and EQuIS Geology. The EQuIS for ArcGIS Extension integrates the leading environmental software packages for specialized tasks, such as contouring with Surfer. In a one-click operation, contours may be created in Surfer and then brought back into the GIS, where they can be used in further analyses with output from other non-GIS applications such as RockWorks for geologic cross-sections. Integration with both RockWare`s LogPlot 2001 and gINT software allows for the display of monitoring well completion diagrams and creation of boring logs on the fly, all from within the GIS. Borehole lithology may be displayed in one click in GMS. Realistic 3D visualization of subsurface data such as contamination, lithology, well screens, and more in ArcScene (3D Analyst version 8.x) make EQuIS and ArcGIS the right answer for integrating environmental data and GIS.

EQuIS ArcView 3.x Interface

The EQuIS ArcView Interface changes the way GIS is used. Instead of requiring a GIS professional to access environmental data in a GIS environment, the project manager or administrator can view analytical results, create contaminant maps, investigate lithology, create borehole logs, and analyze subsurface environmental data, all in only a few clicks. While many different ArcView projects may be associated with any EQuIS project, the EQuIS ArcView Interface automatically loads the appropriate tables from the EQuIS database and creates the necessary relationships. By simply clicking the ArcView button in EQuIS, you have access to analytical samples, results, lithology, and more…all ready for visualization and analysis in ArcView. The EQuIS ArcView Interface is seamlessly integrated with LogPlot, RockWorks99, gINT, and GMS.
