Contaminated Land Monitoring Service

AES provides a comprehensive, high quality analytical service for contaminated land, soils and associated water and gases.

We have retained our position at the forefront of the industry by being one of the first laboratories to have gained MCERTS accreditation enabling us to continue to deliver analytical services of the highest standard to all of our customers. From 1st March 2005 the Environment Agency will only accept soils analysis from MCERTS accredited laboratories.

Customers throughout the UK and Ireland receive the highest level of service and independent expertise with an extensive range of analysis carried out at our UKAS accredited environmental laboratories.

Our analytical capability includes determination of trace metals, SVOCs, VOCs, PCBs, PAHs, phenols, Petrol Range Organics, Diesel Range Organics, dioxins and furans as well as analysis of basic wet chemistry parameters. The majority of these methods are UKAS accredited and British Gas methodologies are also available.

Our specialist contaminated land laboratories are equipped with sophisticated analytical instrumentation including ICPMS, GCMS, HRGC/HRMS, GCFID and HPLC operated by highly qualified and experienced analysts.

A full range of sample containers is provided and courier collection services are operated nationally as required. Customers also benefit from a robust chain of custody and rigorous quality control systems to ensure reliable and accurate results together with a flexible reporting format to match individual needs.

Analytical data is required by organisations which must meet compliance with Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and IPPC for inclusion in baseline condition reports. Our customers include consultancies, local authorities and industry.

Dioxins and Furans Analysis Service

Dioxins and furans are highly toxic, carcinogenic compounds produced as an unwanted by-product of certain industrial and combustion processes.

AES has established a reputation as a centre of excellence in the field of dioxin and furan analysis and employs a team of scientists who are internationally renowned for their expertise. The company has UKAS accreditation for the analysis of dioxins in air, soils, water and non-biological materials.

Customers receive the highest level of service and independent expertise with analysis carried out at our UKAS accredited environmental laboratories. Sample extracts are analysed using one of the company`s two High Resolution Gas Chromatography-High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRGC-HRMS) instruments operated at a resolution in excess of 10,000.

Results are produced for the 17 individual 2,3,7,8 dioxins of particular toxic concern. In addition, results are reported in toxic equivalency units (TEQ) based on relative toxicity. Full data on the procedural blanks run alongside the samples are also reported together with recovery information for the isotopically labelled standards added prior to extraction.

Customers benefit from a robust chain of custody and rigorous quality control systems to ensure reliable and accurate results together with a flexible reporting format to match individual needs.
