Improving organisational environmental performance relies heavily on employees. Employees need to understand the key environmental issues, especially those most relevant to their jobs. This understanding must lead to an awareness of any action required from them and there must also be a willingness to change their behaviour. However, encouraging staff to engage proactively and positively with environmental management activities and systems can be a difficult task. Maintaining momentum and motivation of staff is a universal difficulty for environmental managers and directors. The use of multimedia learning experiences has already been proven in other sectors to be a very powerful tool. This paper examines the potential applications and organisational benefits of using multimedia software tools as a key component of environmental training programmes. Drawing upon a variety of experiences from around the world, the paper will demonstrate how multimedia learning experiences can ensure that organisations enable staff to develop and deliver their environmental goals and systems.
