Reflecting the current dominance of environmental issues on political and business agendas, demand for CERAM's range of landfill gas testing services has risen by over ten percent in the last twelve months.

The services offered by CERAM's Testing & Environmental (CTE) Division in relation to testing landfill gas intended for use as an alternative fuel source have seen the biggest increase in demand, from power generation companies, Local Authorities and waste management companies alike.

And with programmes such as Channel 4's 'Dumped' doing more to highlight the importance of utilising the valuable gases emitted from UK landfill's, CERAM's team of experts are geared up to get even busier.

Malcolm Rose from CERAM commented: "Landfill sites generally emit a cocktail of methane, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen, with other trace concentrations of gases and vapours also present. Obviously the potential energy benefits here are significant but only if emissions can be filtered and verified in the correct way - a delicate process when you consider just how variable different sites can be when it comes to their composition."

"As well as the health implications of poorly filtered emissions, gases which contain certain contaminants can vastly impair turbine/generator performance. At CTE we can make sure this doesn't happen."

CERAM's experts are fully equipped to carry out the necessary analysis of gases extracted from landfill and waste sites. This fast and efficient service is supported by its extensive range of sophisticated instrumentation to analyse bulk gases, trace components, siloxanes etc.

An expert can be on-site within twenty-four hours, with results available to clients within a couple of days.

Using CERAM's services not only reassures customers that they are complying with legislation, and therefore avoiding hefty fines, but can also help facilitate clean, efficient energy production from a source that would otherwise be wasted.

CERAM is the internationally renowned centre for materials and technology, based in Stoke-on-Trent, UK.
