Orwak's Little Elephant compactor helps fast food restaurants master constant waste flow

The international minded Little Elephant has established itself on the French market and entered the busy fast food segment. In 2005 three fast food outlets in Paris, invested in one Top-Loading Little Elephant compactor each.

In Paris like in any other large city the pulse is vibrant and people move at a rapid pace. Places to be, places to go and quick meals are always in demand.

The fast food restaurants are open daily and their operation generates piles of waste. As part of their business concept the fast food restaurants strive to be at their customers' service around the clock and so is Orwak's Little Elephant!

The Little Elephant compactors efficiently reduce the waste volumes and assist the restaurants in mastering the constant waste flow. The Top-Loading Little Elephant compactor appeals to the fast food chains, as it is constructed to compact waste in two-wheeled bins. Bins are preferred to plastic sacks, as the French waste collectors are not supposed to engage in heavy lifting anymore.

One of the outlets produces 20 60-liter-sacks of waste an hour during the rush hours at lunch time! Quick sorts out cardboard boxes separately, but the general waste is compacted in a double chamber TLE 100. Thanks to the waste compaction equipment Little Elephant the daily waste disposal is limited to six 340-liter bins. The restaurant manager comments:

“We got our Little Elephant installed several months ago and we started out with a single-bin chamber but this was not sufficient for our waste volume, so we decided to add one section to the machine. We have not only limited the amount of costly pick-ups every day, but we have also liberated space in our waste room and it is easily accessible to staff that comes in every shift to clean. In addition to this, we are now able to keep our back door closed and locked during most of the day.”

Cleanliness is a hallmark

Fast food chains often aim at providing their customers with efficient, convenient and clean restaurants and there is every reason to expect the waste management process to comply with the same characteristics. All three fast food outlets in this article were equipped with disposers before they invested in Little Elephant compactors. Grinding the waste in a disposer is neither a convenient nor a clean process. Food residues were splashed on the walls and on the floor, which lowered the hygienic standard unacceptably. The compactor on the other hand is waste management equipment based on in-bin-compaction and leaves the storage clean and proper. Orwak's Little Elephant compactor helps the fast food restaurants honor their commitment to cleanliness. One of the restaurant managers explains:

“Little Elephant has helped us a lot in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene at a high level. We have found out that by mixing cardboard boxes and bagged waste we are able to increase the amount of material in the bins as the cardboard layers prevent the material from expanding.

Since the unit got installed our staff has spent more time serving the customers and less time in the basement waste room, so this has proven to be a sound investment”.
