Noise at Work Regulations (2006)

The UK must introduce new noise regulations by February 2006.

Currently (under the Noise at Work Regulations 1989) the first action level is a daily personal noise exposure of 85 dB (A), the second action level is a daily personal noise exposure of 90 dB (A), and the peak action level is a peak sound pressure of 200 pascals.

When the Physical Agents (Noise) Directive is implemented with new regulations in early 2006, the first action level will be 80 dB (A) and a peak value of 112 pascals, the second action level will be 85 dB (A) and 140 pascals, and there will be a limit value of 87 dB (A) and 200 pascals. The limit value will take into account the reduction afforded by hearing protection.

This legislation affects staff who work in noisy environments or with noisy equipment. The duties require that departments carry out noise assessments (specialist equipment required – refer to Safety Office) and, where exposure to noise is more than the first action level of 80 dB (A) departments must look at ways to:

  • Reduce exposure
  • Provide information and training for employees
  • Issue personal hearing protection (PPE)

Machine Enclosures

Design details are very important when providing a noise control solution. Not only do noise levels have to be engineered to reduce the noise source, but the right amount of air movement must be obtained within the enclosed area to allow machinery to run as normal without any overheating. Machinery access is also important to give operators access to the machine at all times, thus still keeping a full working operation of production which may include; loading of materials, quality checks and general maintenance.

Noise Reduction Limited will ensure your every need is met with the design to give you a satisfactory result, including the positioning of doors for easy access and windows for viewing production. A colour coated steel finish is also available along with the standard galvanised sheet steel to complete the style, giving an attractive appearance overall.

NT`S framework and panel system have proven to be effective, allowing full access to the machine or machines if and when any major maintenance is required. This system also allows our engineers to install the equipment quicker, thus keeping installation costs to a minimum and less invasive.

Noise Barriers

Noise Reduction Limited offers a complete service from design, manufacture and installation of reflective noise barriers and acoustic barriers, for road and rail noise problems that might be effecting residential or industry. All barriers available in timber or PVC colour steels.

Acoustic Screening

At Noise Reduction Limited we are able to design and manufacture acoustic screening to your requirements and install to reduce all kinds of industrial noise.

Noise Surveys

Experienced and qualified acoustic engineers are available 24 hours per day, throughout the UK, that will provide professional advice and carry out noise assessments to solve your industrial or environmental noise problems.

If requested, engineers can then give accurate information to our design team for the manufacture and installation of your product, thus providing a complete noise control service.
