MIP Electronics Oy is an innovative privately owned company situated in Kerava, Finland, 30 km north of Helsinki. MIP develops and manufactures optical control instruments for measuring particle emissions in energy- and process industries. For the domestic and neighbouring market we also deliver a range of equipment for measuring noise, vibration and other features in our working environment.
LM-3086 EPA3 - State of the Art Dust and Opacity Monitor
LM 3086 EPA3 offers the new performance standard in opacity/dust monitoring. It fulfills the U.S EPA 40 CFR Appendix B, PS1 requirements and is also approved by TÜV for German 13th BlmSchV and TA Luft.
Measuring principle:
The measuring system is based on the single pass/dual path-architecture, illustrated by the enclosed picture. The laser beam sent by the laser unit crosses the measuring section only once and the receiver unit measures and evaluates the laser beam’s weakening caused by dust content. Additionally the laser unit transmits the reference signal around the stack via optical fibre to the receiver unit, 40 times per second. This system improves the long-term accuracy of the analyser because in traditional analysers with a dual-pass design the retro-reflector is excluded from the zero/span calibration. In the MIP analyser, the optical reference path around the stack ensures that all affected surfaces are included in the calibration. The monitor automatically corrects for dirt that can accumulate on these surfaces.
Features of the monitor unit:
- Auto diagnostic mode is run at the power-up of the monitor and can be triggered manually at any time by the operator
- Continuous system check program runs in the background alerting the operator of exceptions or out of specification parameters
- Comprehensive data storage for measured values and alarms
Typical applications
- Power plants burning oil, coal or bio-fuel
- Steel and iron furnaces
- Cement plants
- Petroleum industry

LM-3188 - Laser Dust Monitor and LM-3188 AZL/AZH - Advanced Laser Dust Monitor
LM 3188 laser dust monitor is the most cost-effective dust monitor model, equipped with a semiconductor laser. It is excellent for measuring at the medium to long distances (3 - 10 m) and medium high concentrations. (> 25 mg/m3). LM-3188 AZL/AZH advanced laser dust monitor is a dust monitor with semiconductor laser.
Features:
- Direct continuous measurement of opacity or optical density
- Linear voltage output 0...1V and current output 4 ... 20mA
- Digital LCD-display and analogue display for D-value
- 4 operation ranges (...0...0,03 D, 0...0,1 D, 0...0,3 D, 0...1,0 D)
Advantages of a semiconductor laser
- Good stability and long life. In contrast to designs that use more traditional light bulbs, needing constant compensation, the laser source is relatively immune to the aging effect. The typical life span of a semiconductor laser is up to 10 years.
- Due to the high intensity of the laser the device can easily penetrate also higher dust densities.
- Operation with known, clearly defined wave lengths. This makes the theoretical calculations and their results more predictable as opposed to conventional sources that operate over a broad range of wave lengths and whose spectrum changes with age.
LM-3086 SE - State of the Art Dust and Opacity Monitor
LM 3086 SE offers the new performance standard in opacity/dust monitoring which is based on the model designed for USA-market and approved by US EPA. LM 3086 SE has TÜV approval for German 13th BlmSchV and TA Luft

Advantages of using a laser light source:
- Measuring path up to 20 meters without changing a single component in the system, due to a narrow and intense laser light beam.
- Due to high intensity, measuring of higher concentrations is possible
