Environmental Audits
Hyder Consulting has extensive experience in undertaking environmental audits of organisations and projects and their interaction with the environment. This enables us to provide information on which to base decisions about improvements to operational practices and/or management systems, investment opportunities and strategic plans.
The audit is used extensively as a powerful and successful management tool. It helps clients to make decisions about management and working practices with respect to environmental liabilities and examines how environmental issues affect the company or project in terms of business pressures, market opportunities and work programming.
Environmental Impact Assessment
We help clients to achieve the best ‘environmental fit’ for a development, and also help speed a scheme's progress through the planning and consents processes.

Environmental Management Systems
We support organisations to establish procedures to set environmental objectives, achieve compliance with those objectives, and demonstrate compliance to interested parties. Hyder Consulting provides practical advice and assistance on all aspects of developing and running an EMS, whether it is designed for compliance or certification to ISO 14001 or the Eco Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).
As part of this service we work closely with companies to translate their environmental vision and objectives into corporate programmes and performance. We also address risk assessment and planning and the implementation of waste minimisation strategies and practices.
Environmental Modelling
Hyder Consulting offers a wide range of capability across the environmental spectrum covering air, noise, river, estuarine and coastal processes, hydrology, and fluid hydraulics and dispersion. We also maintain a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) capability which provides a cost effective method for testing and improving designs without the need for physical modelling.
Tackling the increased threat and incidence of flooding around the world is one important application of these skills. However, our teams work across the water sector on resource and drainage issues, and on a diverse range of projects in the highways, property, maritime, oil and gas, and renewable energy markets.
Hydrogeology
Hyder Consulting’s hydrogeological assessment and groundwater engineering capability is important to the success of many projects in sectors ranging from property to highways. Experienced staff provide wide ranging services for the study of groundwater, including assessment of the movement and control of pollutants, resource exploitation, resource and source protection and groundwater control.
Recent clients have included government agencies, industrial water users, private water companies and land developers. Assignments range from localised borehole assessments to large scale groundwater control and monitoring.
Hydrology and River Modelling
Whether you attribute it or not to ‘global warming’, it seems that each year the incidence of serious flooding in various parts of the world grows. This is just one factor in the growth of our hydrology and river modelling team.
The team’s work isn’t just confined to the water sector. Water resource, drainage and hydrology issues arise in many of our highways and renewable energy projects. With the pressure on space for property development in certain parts of the world, which means that schemes are increasingly being promoted on flood plains, Hyder’s hydrology team’s skills are also increasingly important within the property sector.
A selection of recent projects has seen our consultants working in the UK, Isle of Man, Ireland, Hong Kong, St Kitts and Nevis, and the Middle East.
